When it comes to cutting cals, most people have the mindset of "more is better".

So, if I cut 500 cals and do that for a week, I'll lose one pound of fat right?

How about if I just double that and cut 1000 cals, my results will be TWICE as fast correct?

Maybe for a week or so and then BOOM, you run into a nasty wall.

It's because your body is a master at adapting to any sort of stress you put it through so while it'll respond to a calorie deficit at first, after a short while it'll shut down it's metabolism to meet the deficit and come to a screeching halt.

That's when it all goes to sh*t...
Super Low Calorie Diets Will Screw You Up In Multiple Ways...
#1 - You'll DESTROY Your Metabolism As Well As...  constantly have little to no energy, DECREASE your performance in the gym (and the bed room), and simply just LOSE.  Main thing here is your "Basal Metabolic Rate" (BMR) will greatly suffer - So instead of burning say, 2000 cals just sitting around, after you go on a pro-longed low calorie diet, your BMR will DROP QUICKLY = NOT GOOD for you (especially if you like food that is)

#2 - You'll LOSE MUSCLE Fast - When you cut your cals way down, your body has no other choice but to get rid of muscle because it's "expensive" to keep on the body - NO CALS = no muscle = a softer, flabbier YOU (and YES, your body would rather break down muscle and use it for energy VS going to it's own fat stores)

#3 - You Welcome in the "The REBOUND" (AKA the Yo-Yo Effect) - The body is very SMART so when you cut your cals down so low, it REMEMBER's so it preps itself for the next time you go LOW calorie.  What this means for you is easy and quick FAT STORAGE because the body will be fighting to NOT STARVE.  So, when you lose weight the first time and mess up on your low calorie diet, that's when you experience the easy weight gain short after = NOT GOOD

So what DOES WORK?  Small, strategic drops, and fluctuations in calories and MACROS is what works best for long lasting, sustainable results with fat loss. (read that - LONG SUSTAINABLE results - NOT some "quick" fix...)  

MISTAKE #2
Banking On Straight Up Will Power and Discipline To Help You Stick To Your Highly RESTRICTIVE "Clean Diet"  
Ever hear of the "Whole30" challenge?  Works GREAT (for 30 days).

After the 30 Days?  NOT so great.

I'd say for every 9 out of 10 people I've had conversations with who've done a "challenge" like this ALWAYS gain the weight back.

WHY?  Well, it's a super restrictive diet for one and two,  there's NOTHING you learn from doing a strict diet like this.  
So, what typically happens (maybe you can relate with this) is the weight comes back on. You go for a solid 30 days and complete the challenge without a single cheat, then BOOM! All hell breaks loose.

Research (as well as real life experience) has demonstrated time and time again that diets that are super-restrictive on food choices deplete your willpower and discipline overtime which then leads to binging…. NO GOOD for you if you're wanting to shred fat and get lean for life.

By allowing lots of variety in your diet, you're able to get a wide array of key vitamins, minerals, and macros that will change your body for the better. 

The level of restriction in most "diets" is absolutely downright crazy. You should aim to eat different protein sources, starches, fats, veggies, and fruits every single day, rotating them constantly to load your body full of nutrients and keep your willpower levels high.

I've seen it 100's of times over… a client comes to me frustrated because their past diet had a plan that only allowed chicken, broccoli, and brown rice in it. While it works out great in the beginning and the client loyally totes their tupperware everywhere they went, it only lasts a short time before their tastebuds, their willpower, DISCIPLINE and overall desire to get in shape all go down the gutter!

Going "LOW Carb"
Trends certainly come and go and one that still hasn't seemed to go away is that of the "LOW CARB" craze.

Hey, I'll admit that I too fell into the "low carb craze" as well and it didn't turn out so great for me.

Low levels of energy, moodiness, performance decreases, little to NO sex drive... 

It was AWFUL.

Listen, low carb diets are and can be AMAZING… that's IF you don't train or workout much.
